Claire Lathrop, also known as ClairVoyage, is a 26-year-old traveler, artist, and tattoo artist. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Claire showed an early passion for art, which was nurtured by her family. Her journey from web development to a nomadic lifestyle has shaped her unique artistic practice.
Claire’s love for art began at a young age. By 15, she was attending music festivals, finding a sense of belonging in the vibrant community. During her sophomore year of high school, she started college early, studying web development. However, she quickly realized that computer-based design work didn’t align with her true self. Graduating high school a year early with two years of college completed, Claire was ready for a new path.
After moving to Kansas City, Claire continued to travel and attend music festivals, experiences that deeply influenced her. It was during this time that she began having hypnagogic visions, which, combined with her festival experiences, inspired her to create art that could unite and inspire others. This led her to apply to the Kansas City Art Institute, where she majored in painting and art history.
At the Art Institute, Claire discovered the importance of history in her art. She traveled to 32 countries during her studies, using these experiences to inform her painting practice. Her travels transformed her art into an inspirational diary, capturing imagery from around the globe. Claire’s struggles with a neurological sleep disorder became a tool for depicting universal realms of the divine, seen in dreams or deep, conscious states.
After graduating, Claire sold all her belongings and began traveling the world, visiting Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. During her travels, she learned the art of tattooing, a skill that allowed her to share her artistic gifts in a deeply personal and meaningful way. By 2024, Claire had been fully nomadic for four years.
While traveling in Latin America, Claire met two talented tattoo artists, Kim Spiral and Gato, who welcomed her into their studio and home in 2022. There, she completed her tattoo apprenticeship and learned to speak Spanish. Afterward, she began guest spotting in various studios around the world and in the United States.
As of late 2024, Claire is working on establishing a more consistent private space for tattooing in Kansas City and Wichita. After years of working in various environments, she finds that private studios best align with her mission, fostering a higher level of comfort for her clients.
